Nina Kaufmans, Founder and CEO

WELCOME TO SAFE PLACE

OUR STORY

Growing up in one of Eastern Europe's capital cities, rich in culture and diverse backgrounds, Nina Kaufmans was exposed to various traditions, vibrant histories, and countless tales of resilience. Her upbringing in this mosaic of cultural influences fostered a deep curiosity about human experiences and the complexities of identity. She also witnessed and experienced the lingering effects of generational and personal traumas, which heightened her empathy and understanding of human pain and healing. Those early experiences, along with later personal events and her deep engagement with her clients' narratives, laid the groundwork for her journey in creating Safe Place Counseling and Therapy, where understanding and honoring individual stories became central to her mission. The SAFE model of psychotherapy treatment delivery was created and implemented to benefit all clients who come through the door.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

ALL ARE WELCOME

Safe Place Counseling and Therapy was founded with a mission where “all are welcome” to receive trauma-responsive, comprehensive therapy services regardless of their insurance coverage, social or economic opportunities, or legal status. A clinician, teacher, and researcher at heart, Nina Kaufmans utilized all aspects of her professional identity to inspire the creation of a new kind of psychotherapy center. At the core of its values is a commitment to never turn anyone away from accessing services. Whether a client comes with insurance or gets treatment through the innovative counseling and social work intern clinic model, any child, adult, family, or couple seeking help receives quality psychotherapy. Safe Place is a sanctuary where barriers to care are dismantled, ensuring that all have a path to achieving their goals and obtaining healing, growth, and compassionate support.
