My Story
Dr. Nina Kaufmans is a licensed professional counselor, a board-approved clinical supervisor, and a nationally certified counselor. She is also the founding director and CEO of Safe Place Counseling & Therapy Center. She holds a PhD in Counseling Education & Supervision from Regent University, where her research focused on trauma-informed interventions such as the Immediate Stabilization Procedure (ISP), a groundbreaking, EMDR-derived protocol that reduces acute distress and promotes psychological resilience.
With over ten years of experience in her practice, Dr. Kaufmans combines evidence-based modalities such as CBT, EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, and somatic approaches with a deeply relational and trauma-informed perspective. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, helping clients manage complex trauma, anxiety, depression, dissociation, and life transitions.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Kaufmans is a researcher, educator, and advocate. She frequently presents at national and international conferences, contributes to publications, and leads various trauma-related training sessions and workshops. She is passionate about expanding access to high-quality, comprehensive care, ensuring that individuals and families, regardless of background, documented status, or medical coverage, receive the support they need to heal and thrive.
At the heart of her work is a commitment to cultural humility, inclusivity, and social justice. Dr. Kaufmans believes that every client’s story is sacred, and she dedicates her practice to creating safe, empowering spaces where people can feel seen, heard, and transformed.
